The Northern Cross-Island Highway (Provincial Highway 7), stretching from Daxi in Taoyuan in the west to Datong in Yilan in the east, is one of Taiwan's three major east-west cross-island highways. Since its opening in 1966, it has served as a vital transportation route connecting Taiwan’s eastern and western coasts. More than just a road, it’s a scenic and cultural journey rich in history and ecological landscapes. This cross-island highway is like a road to paradise, full of surprises at every twist and turn, with each curve revealing a unique, breathtaking view.
Shrouded in mist and mountain clouds, the Northern Cross-Island Highway offers a serene and romantic atmosphere, making travelers feel as if they are walking through a dream, with landscapes so beautiful they seem surreal. Join us on this journey, following the course of the Dahan River from Fuxing through Daguan, Mingchi, and finally to Baitao Bridge in Yilan. With a few segments accessible by vehicle, this is a relaxed four-day, 65-kilometer trek, crossing the Snow Mountain Range and venturing into Mingchi—a hidden paradise of poetic beauty.
Accompanied by professional guides, we’ll explore mountain forests, discover secluded landscapes, hike by day, and stargaze by night. Along the way, our guides will interpret the unique flora and fauna, explain the hydrology of the Dahan River, and provide insights into Taiwan’s diverse geological features. Practicing Leave No Trace principles, this journey is more than a natural exploration; it aligns with Taiwan’s commitment to sustainable development and aims to contribute to the goals of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
