The Northern Cross-Island Highway, Provincial Highway 7, starts in Daxi, Taoyuan in the west and extends to Datong, Yilan in the east. It is one of Taiwan's three major east-west highways. Since its opening in 1966, this highway has been a crucial transportation route connecting the northern coasts of Taiwan. It is also rich in history, culture, and ecological landscapes. This highway is often described as a road to paradise, full of surprises along the way. Every curve and turn brings a different sense of awe. The highway is frequently enveloped in mist and mountain fog, and walking along it offers a sense of tranquility and romance, as if stepping into a dream, with breathtaking scenery that feels almost unreal.
Join us as we travel along the Dahan River, from Fuxing through Daguan to Mingchi. Apart from some sections where vehicle transfers are required, you can enjoy a leisurely 45-kilometer hike, crossing the Xueshan mountain range and reaching the picturesque Mingchi, a place likened to a "paradise on earth." We will venture into forests, explore secluded areas, hike by day, and stargaze at night, guided by professional tour leaders. Along the way, we will observe local wildlife, explain the hydrology of the Dahan River, and analyze Taiwan's diverse geology. Additionally, we practice the principles of "Leave No Trace," ensuring that we leave behind nothing but footprints.
